about

A Bit Of Explanation:
The journey these two songs took to completion (or somewhat-completion as they stand) began outside the idea of a band, at least this band.

Initially, Power Chords was to be the first song for a side project that Zach and I planned to start that embraced the ambient pop of mid-era Starflyer 59. The lyrics themselves somewhat reflect this ambition. There were several demos recorded for this song, but it became obvious that we weren't really going to pursue a side project when our main project had only just started to get off the ground.

Still desiring to pursue a side project, I folded the song into a new concept, an electronic EP's worth of songs that dispensed some form of advice that would be released either under my own name or some other lame moniker that I never came up with.

In fact, I already had written the second song for the EP before coming up with the concept, Yes Men. I solicited more scenarios where one might need advice, but never actually wrote any songs from the source material.

Yes Men was sent off first to be remixed by Ronnie Martin of Joy Electric, who's brother, driving force behind Starflyer 59, had been the mixing and mastering engineer of my first album.

As often happens, the band was in need of new material for live performance, and it began to dawn on me that it would be foolish to write songs that I thought were good songs, but keep them from the band. So it was decided we would arrange the songs for the band and adopt them as our own.

These were the first songs that we worked on as a cohesive band. Up to this point, parts were played and written most often by individuals other than the ones who appeared on stage holding instruments. These songs were different. They were not Jordan Banks songs, they were YEARS songs.

We're proud of these songs, and though we don't play them as much anymore, we wanted to give them a nice home, with a warm cozy bed to rest in.

We hope you enjoy them. Maybe you'll have a little YEARS dance party while listening to the Ronnie Martin remixes. We are so grateful for your support and interest in our band. Rest assured, we are hard at work on our next record, which we can't wait to present to you.
