This is the very first song we started working on for the second record all the way back in 2012. It has gone through so many changes. The lyrics were finalized just last week. We're pretty proud of it.
lyrics
k,
i closed my eyes, caught my breath, and tried to pray
but i had nothing, so i went straight to amen
james,
where are you going?
is it open to debate?
nah, just run away
out in the hall, they plate the walls with silver and gold
bend their knees at the feet
it feels a lot like home
but if in his hands the whole earth stands,
what's that in your palm?
a couple dice, bright white
will you watch them fall?
on the train
i put my head down in my hands and changed my name
and pressed my legs tight to my guts to keep them safe
say
do you know, when it's cold, we'll all find our way and skate
across that burning lake
in the garden
there, they're crawling
on bellies rotten, with a mouthful of fallen fruit
and the trees the fruit shed
still hang their branches
to the leaves that dance and shake hard with the good news
i tried prayers for peace
i prayed to open eyes
i don't pray now
